Mardan Medical Complex — MTI Mardan

Established in 1997–98 as a 400-bed hospital, Mardan Medical Complex (MMC) became the teaching hospital of Bacha Khan Medical College in 2008 and has expanded to approximately 730–800 beds, with further growth planned. It provides comprehensive tertiary care through specialties including medicine, surgery, cardiology, neurosurgery, nephrology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, psychiatry, and diagnostic services. Recent reforms have focused on strengthening emergency care, enforcing biometric attendance, and expanding the Outpatient Department and Cardiac Centre, while a proposed specialty block would substantially increase future capacity.

Bacha Khan Medical Complex — MTI Swabi

Bacha Khan Medical Complex (BKMC) is a 452-bed tertiary teaching hospital and the largest healthcare facility in Swabi District, affiliated with Gajju Khan Medical College. Its teaching network includes BKMC, DHQ Hospital Swabi, THQ Lahor, and, since 2021, THQ Topi. BKMC was the first public-sector multi-specialty tertiary hospital in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to receive a Category 1 licence from the KP Health Care Commission. The network also operates a Thalassemia Centre and dedicated Mother and Child Care units under the Sehat Sahulat program.

Sehat Sahulat Card Empanelment Gap

As of June 2024, THQ Hospital Takht Bhai (“Ganjai Hospital”) the main facility serving 3 tehsils of Mardan district was not empanelled for the Sehat Sahulat Card, despite repeated requests from the District Health Office, Mardan to the KP health department. Only Mardan Medical Complex and DHQ Hospital Mardan with 2 private hospitals were on the district’s panel. The hospital also lacked sterilization autoclave machines, meaning C-section procedures could not be performed under the health card scheme locally, forcing expectant mothers to travel further afield.
